A unique program that began as a
Bala Vihar activity, but expanded to include the participation of
all age groups, is the Chinmaya Gita Chanting Competition. Swami
Chinmayananda's brainchild to motivate children around the world to
open the Gita and learn to chant its verses came with the
progressive strategy to chant-study-know-live the Gita. Children,
parents, and grandparents have thus been encouraging each other to
participate in this healthy competition, of which the underlying
goal is spiritual evolution.
Today, while there are many local
organizations that conduct a similar event, none can match the
vision, knowledge, love, and training that Mission acharyas and
sevaks bring to the table. Over the years, this competition also has
been held on various levels: regional, city, state, national, and
international (during the 50th-Year Celebrations of the Chinmaya
Movement). From inception in the early 1980s to date, the Chinmaya
Gita Chanting Competition, annually conducted in regional Mission
centres around the world, has seen over six million participants.
About Chapter 8 - Impreishable Brahman
In our Yamunotri Center we had about 130 participants all together. The competion was held on Nov 26th, 2008 at our Yamunotri Center.
The Gita, which teaches the Supreme Truth and the art of living, has inspired millions of people including great world leaders and achievers.
To discriminate between the higher and the lower nature of the Eternal Self, and identifying with the Higher, to play at will with all freedom and joy in the fields of its lower manifestations, is to be the perfect Man-of-Wisdom--a God upon the earth, ever-liberated from the threats and sorrows of the finite. The aim of Vedanta is to carve out of ordinary folks such blissful Men-of-Wisdom.
Lord Krishna starts with the glorification of the Man-of-Wisdom and declares that he is perfect not only because of his special knowledge and experience of the Self, but also because he becomes thereby a well-integrated personality at all levels of his existence and contacts with the world. He easily proves himself to be a man of godly efficacy and balance, in all situations and conditions, at all places and times.
