About the Bhagavata Kathakar

Mesmerized by Swami Chinmayananda in the 1960's, Swami Shantananda (then Br. Raghavan) went to serve the Master for almost two years as his traveling secretary.

After completing his Vedanta course in Mumbai, Swamiji traveled to Taiwan where he successfully managed his own business while teaching Vedanta part-time. Since 1992, when he was given Sannyas by Pujya Gurudev, Swamiji has dedicated his life to the full time teaching of Vedanta in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York area. Swamiji was instrumental in building Chinmaya Mission in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Later in the US, Swamiji led the creation of Chinmaya Kedar in Langhorn PA, and then Chinmaya Vrindavan in Cranbury NJ. Swamiji is also the President of Chinmaya Mission West which in turn oversees the activities of over 48 Mission centers in the US and Canada. He has over years traveled all across the North America doing Gnana Yagna on Upanishads, the Bhagwad Geeta and conducting Shrimad Bhagavad Saptahs.

About Bhagavata Saptah

Among the Hindu scriptures, Srimad Bhagavata Mahapuraṇa is the most worshipped as it encompasses all the Avatars of Lord Visnu. Sri Krishna promised that He will eternally live in the form of Srimad Bhagavata Mahapuraṇa and protect the devotees of Kali-Yuga. Thus, Srīmad Bhagavata Mahapurana is the very nature and form of Bhagavan, as well as the means to attain Bhagavan. The uniqueness of Srimad Bhagavata Mahapurana is that by mere listening to it, Lord manifests in the listener’s heart. Thus the Sadhana, Sadhya and Sadhaka (spiritual means, goal and the seeker) are the same Lord alone. This ancient tradition of Bhagavata Saptah began when King Pariksit heard the entire Srimad Bhagavata Mahapurana from Srī Suka in 7 days and attained Moksha. Hence it is considered meritorious to listen to Srimad Bhagavatam at least once in a lifetime. Participating in Bhagavat Saptāh is rare and auspicious; for it grants lasting peace and eternal well-being to devotees and their families. Truly blessed are those who participate as "Yajaman" as it bestows countless merits and redeems generations.
